Our Beginning

Honey Hill Farm was founded in 1997 by Sally Powell. Sally was always crazy about animals, but growing up in urban Covington, KY, she did not have the access to them that she would have liked.

According to Sally, the absolute highlight of her childhood was her family’s annual reunion, when a local man would drop off two horses and a pony for the family to ride. She spent the entire day with the horses, even eating her lunch with them.

Sally bought her first horse and moved to Pendleton County after college. She worked for an airline, but maintained a strong connection to animals by raising her children in 4-H and frequent trail riding. Upon her retirement in 1997, she decided to pursue a lifelong dream.

With just a beat up old trailer and a single pony named “Dolly,” Sally founded Honey Hill Farm to provide access to animals for children who would not otherwise have it. Children just like her.

Where we are now

Honey Hill Farm is headquartered in Berry, KY. The farm is the permanent home to over 500 animals.

In 2017, we provided services to over 600 events and managed seasonal petting zoo facilities in six amusement parks.

Honey Hill Farm is still owned by Sally Powell, and managed by two of her adult children, Rob and Megan. We have seven full time employees and nearly 100 part-time, seasonal team members.

At Honey Hill Farm, we attribute our success to the unique nature of our services and our commitment to excellence.

Where we want to be

Honey Hill Farm is nowhere near finished growing. We want to continue to serve the community and provide jobs to employees who share our vision for a long time to come.

We believe that if we continue to strive for excellence, and surround ourselves by fantastic people, the sky is the limit. In 5 years, we would like to be part of even more events and more amusement parks.

Whether you are just starting as an event assistant or have been with us for years, we hope that you can be part of this mission.

What sets us apart

Honey Hill Farm is one of the biggest (possibly the biggest) mobile petting zoo companies in the country. We have gotten this far through hard work, adaptability, and forward thinking.

But what really sets us apart is our quality. Simply put, we offer a better experience from beginning to end than most other mobile petting zoos.

Here’s why:

  • Our customer service is excellent. Very few companies can provide the flexibility and responsiveness that we provide our park clients.
  • Our employees are well trained, professional and enthusiastic.
  • Our animals come first. We have a full-time animal care director, and unlike with many companies, our animals are lifetime petting zoo animals, not livestock that will be sold at the end of the season.
  • We have the ability to do almost anything, from small backyard birthday parties, to large, season-long amusement park events.
