Honey Hill Farm provides mobile petting zoos to events in Kentucky and Ohio, in addition to operating long-term zoo attractions in a variety of locations, in multiple states.

Our private farm is located just outside of Berry, KY and is the permanent home of hundreds of animals.

Job Description

The primary function of this job is to work closely with Support Operations Manager to care for over 400 animals, including but not limited to equines, camelids, cattle, birds, goats and sheep, as well as to assist in the daily tasks involved in providing our services to the public. Responsibilities may include:

  • Providing daily animal care, which includes feeding/watering the animals and cleaning stalls and pens, sweeping runs, scrubbing dishes and all other activities which contribute to a clean and healthy environment.
  • Observing the animals closely, performing physical exams, checking for parasites, administering vaccines and other preventative medications, and treating a variety of illnesses and injuries as they occur.
  • Assisting in routine care such as hoof trimming, shearing and training/socialization.
  • Picking up supplies and transporting animals to vet appointments or other locations as needed.
  • Working and communicating with other members of the animal care team and other management to support the health and wellness of the animals.
  • Assisting in other operational tasks, which include preparing animals, vehicles, paperwork and supplies for travel and events.
  • Working with and around heavy machinery and equipment, including tractors, ATVs and stock trailers.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and passionate about animal husbandry. He or she will be committed to continuing their own education in the best practices of animal care.  He or she will be an effective communicator and work well as part of a team, but also be able to work independently. He or she will be able to adapt and thrive in a tight-knit, non-traditional work environment, and have the physical and emotional strength that it takes to work with animals every day. Other requirements include:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • The ability to regularly lift at least 50 lbs, to bend, squat, climb and carry, as well as to handle and restrain large animals.
  • A clean driving record, free of DUIs, reckless driving charges and excessive accidents or speeding tickets.
  • Reliable transportation and a schedule that will allow for some flexibility around the needs of the animals.
  • The ability to work some holidays, which may include at least half days on Christmas or Thanksgiving.
  • A passion for animals and a dedication to ongoing self-education and improvement of animal care skills.
  • Strong preference given to large animal vet techs, or individuals with a history of working with livestock or equines.
  • Strong preference given to individuals with some experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Strong preference will be given to those who live within 30 minutes of our Berry, KY farm.

Schedule

We are hiring two individuals for this position. Both individuals will work approximately 16-32 hours per week, including some holidays.

Sunday availability is required for both candidates. Other days may include Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Mondays, and can be determined by the right candidate’s availability. Once the positions are filled and training is over, weekly schedules will usually be regular.

Salary and Benefits

  • $16.00-$18.00/hour, based on skills and experience
