For the first time in our nearly 30 year history, we will be welcoming people to our private farm, located at 2455 Crooked Creek Road Berry, KY 41003. Private “backstage” tours are being offered (by apppointment only) by our wonderfull animal care specialist/farm ambassador, Brandy Mello.
What to expect
These tours will likely be unlike anything you’ve ever experienced at an event, a traditional farm, or even a pumpkin patch. The farm was not set up for visitors. A true “backstage” area for our public services, it was designed to be more functional than aesthetic, and to serve as the peaceful home to our animals and staff. In the past, this experience has only been available to our very close friends and family.
These tours are being offered as a pilot program and as financial support for a major new project we are working on. We are offering a limited number of tours, for a limited time. As a tour guest, you will be able to play a vital role in helping us shape the future of Honey Hill Farm, so we welcome your input and your continued communication.
Your Arrival
- The farm is located approximately 1 hour south of Cincinnati and 50 minutes north of Lexington. Guests coming from I-75 will take the Williamstown exit from the north, or the Corinth exit from the South. You will continue about 20 minutes from the exit to our farm, on relatively good, but increasingly windy two-lane roads. GPS is pretty accurate.
- From I-75, the driveway will be on your left, and the numbered mailbox will be on the right. The farm is totally out of sight of the road. You’ll only see a wood fence with a double gate that opens in the middle and will be standing open.
- Please try not to arrive more than 15 minutes prior to your appointment time or we may not be ready to greet you.
- You will park in the large parking area by the house. There is a maintained port-o-potty in the parking area for your use.
Your Time on the Farm
- The main farm consists of 85 acres, with the majority of activity occurring on about 20 acres. The farm is fairly tidy, and very functional for our purposes, but it is not a “stage.” Our priorities have always been on outward facing areas, like nice trucks, trailers and event supplies, on paying a living wage to staff, and on animal health and nutrition. It has never been on farm beautification. That being said, the farm can still be quite lovely and extremely interesting.
- From the main farm, you’ll be able to meet goats, sheep, llamas, alpacas, donkeys, ponies, horses, camels, kangaroos, ducks, geese, chickens, rabbits, cows and pigs.
- This tour will usually include a moderate amount of walking. You will be entering actual animal pastures, and you may walk on uneven surfaces, gravel and grass, and even into the woods. There may be mud and manure. There will definitely be insects. Kids love to play on the gravel piles when we have them. It may be very hot or cold. The farm is on top of a big ridge and can be quite windy at times. Please dress for all of these occasions.
- If a member of your group may struggle with walking in these conditions, please let us know so we can find a way to make sure they are included. IF a member of your party has other special needs or concerns, such as allergies, medical conditions, phobias, etc, please let us know.
- Some of the activities you may choose to participate in include walking with, sitting with or even laying with the animals in their pastures, short horse rides around the farm, helping feed or perform other animal care duties (on specialized tours), feeding treats to the animals, gathering eggs, etc. There are inherent risks to all of these activities, but they are all optional.
- Animals are unpredictable, and life on the farm can be unpredictable. While you are on the farm, it is possible that your group may witness an animal emergency, breeding behavior, dominance dispute, birth or even death. There are typically at least a few animals on the farm at any given time who are struggling to keep weight, are undergoing treatment for something, or who are clearly nearing the end of life.
- The safety and wellness of our animals always comes first. In the event of an animal emergency that requires all of our attention, or a member of your group is posing a threat to the well-being of our animals, or a planned activity is not in the best interest of our animals, your tour may have to be altered, postponed or cancelled.
- This is a working farm, and there will be trucks, trailers and other farm equipment coming and going. We will steer clear of those activities when necessary.
- The tours will last approximately 2 hours, but that may vary by a half hour based on many factors, including your own preferences.
- Please feel free to bring snacks or even lunch for your group, as well as any and all other comfort items you may want or need. Do not hesitate to communicate your needs to Brandy at any point. This is your tour, and it can be whatever you need it to be.
